Hyundai Motor Group has a new performance sedan under its tent. First there was the Stinger GT, Kia’s performance sedan “halo car.” Then there was Genesis’ G70, sharing the Stinger’s powertrain but shortening the wheelbase and cargo areas to create a somewhat more nimble and luxurious up-market alternative to the Kia.
But what about Hyundai? Yes, Hyundai had the Veloster N! A funky three-door hot hatch likely to torment VW GTI owners and your neighbors alike … but the Veloster is not a proper sedan.
Enter the Elantra N! While only 276 horsepower and 289 pound-feet or torque compared to a Stinger GT’s 365 hp and 376 torque, on paper it looks as though the Elantra N would not have a chance.
But the Elantra N is punching well above its weight class coming in at about 800 lbs trimmer than the Stinger. That weight savings means the Elantra N is FAST. But is it fast enough?
The folks at Sam CarLegion decided to put that question to the test.
