Recall – Palisade & Telluride Valve Springs

Hyundai has announced a recall for over 4,000 Palisades from the 2024 model year due to an issue with the valve springs that could break. Although it’s estimated that only one percent of those recalled are affected, there’s a risk that a broken valve spring could create a hole in the engine block. All U.S. models of the Palisade come with a 3.8-liter V6 engine, which delivers 291 horsepower.

The 2024 Kia Telluride, which features the same 3.8-liter V6 drivetrain as the Palisade, has also been subject to an identical recall.

Hyundai has determined 4,235 of their cars might have the problem. But to know for sure, each car must be checked by a mechanic. If they find the issue in a car, Hyundai will fix it by replacing parts of the engine at no cost to the car owner.

The Korean carmaker became aware of a problem in October 2023 when a stalling issue in vehicles was traced back to a fractured valve spring. Upon further investigation, January 2024 they identified eighteen instances of this defect in 2024 Palisade models.

Valve spring damage during production can lead to engine stalling in V6 engines and, in rare cases, a broken spring might enter the combustion chamber, leading to potential engine block damage, crashes, or fires.

Dealers and customers will get alerted on the same day, April 13th, 2024. If you own a 2024 Palisade you can search NHTSA.gov with your VIN number to confirm whether or not your vehicle is in the recall population.
