Kia Recalls 3.3L Twin Turbo Stingers & K900

Updated regarding Genesis vehicles – 3/19/2024 8:58 am

The National Highway Traffic Safety Board (NHTSA) has directed that Kia recall certain Stinger and K900 vehicles due to the potential of an engine compartment fire from leaking oil.

The recall impacts 2019-2020 K900, and 2018-2023 Stingers equipped with a 3.3-liter twin-turbo gasoline direct injection engine. It has been determined the left turbocharger oil feed pipe and hose assembly may deteriorate causing a leak of oil. Deterioration of the hose due to exposure to radiant heat from exhaust manifold can increase the risk of an engine compartment fire while driving.

Dealers will replace the left turbocharger oil feed pipe and hose assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 26, 2024. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia’s number for this recall is SC300. Or you can check for open recalls on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.

All 2019-2020 model year K900 vehicles manufactured from August 8, 2018 through August 24, 2020 equipped with 3.3-liter turbo gasoline direct injection (T-GDI) engines are part of the recall. Testing indicates the potential failure are not in VIN order.

Certain 2018-2022 model year Stinger vehicles manufactured from September 21, 2017 through September 15, 2021 equipped with 3.3-liter turbo gasoline direct injection (T-GDI) engines (35,455 units) are part of the recall. Like the K900, the vehicles subject to this recall were not produced in VIN order.

One 2023 Kia Stinger manufactured on June 29, 2022 will also be recalled.

An oil leak, burning smell, white smoke from engine compartment and/or illumination of the engine oil pressure warning light are all potential symptoms of the problem covered under this recall

The recall for Kia’s Stinger issued by Transport Canada is 2024-146.

Genesis has added it’s 3.3L six-cylinder G70, G80 and G90 models to the U.S. recall impacting 30,000 vehicles.

In Canada the Stinger recall issued by Transport Canada is 2024-146. The Canadian Genesis recall is 2024-158 which supersedes and replaces Transport Canada’s 2019-350. Transport Canada advises that those who had their vehicle repaired under 2019-350 should still bring their car in for repair under 2024-158.
