Hyundai has rolled out a new ad campaign showing driverless robot taxis. Science fiction? Partner company Motional is planning a fleet of driverless Hyundai Ioniq 5 taxis in Las Vegas NV starting late 2023.
Shortly after the Las Vegas launch the two companies plan to bring the autonomous robotaxis to Los Angeles and other major cities.
The video highlights Level 4 autonomous driving technology and safety features with all sorts of unique ‘edge case’ robotaxi’s testing scenarios. The Ioniq 5 robotaxi is seen using more than 30 advanced sensors and onboard computing to navigate safely in unpredictable environments populated by various oddly-shaped vehicles such as stretch limousines and billboard trucks, as well as pedestrians. Also demonstrated is safe passenger pick up within crowded areas such as a hotel driveway.
