Hyundai Motor Company President and Global COO Receives Top Industry Award in Spain

José Muñoz has been honored with one of Spain’s esteemed automotive accolades, joining the esteemed company of Rafael Nadal, Carlos Sainz, and other notable Spaniards.

Muñoz, president and global chief operating officer of Hyundai Motor Company, and president and CEO of Hyundai and Genesis Motor North America, was selected to receive the prestigious “El Abrazote de Manolo” award by the Spanish members of the Car Of the Year (COTY) jury in Europe.

The jury recognized Muńoz for his extensive experience and continuous support for the automotive industry, both in Spain and worldwide.

José Muñoz is being recognized for his significant contributions to the motoring industry in Spain and internationally. Xavi Pérez, a member of the COTY jury, extended congratulations on behalf of the jury members in Spain.

Muńoz, speaking at a ceremony in Madrid, expressed deep gratitude on behalf of Hyundai’s global team. He mentioned feeling honored and highlighted the satisfaction of serving customers with outstanding products and being part of a team with a promising vision for the future of mobility. Additionally, Muńoz expressed his appreciation to the Spanish Car of the Year jury and sent warm regards to Manolo Domenech.

José Muñoz is the president and global COO of Hyundai Motor Company. He is also the president and CEO of Hyundai and Genesis Motor North America. In his role, Muñoz is responsible for driving performance in strategic regions like Europe, India, the Middle East, and Africa. He leads global talent acquisition and management to attract and retain key talent in technology-based businesses. Additionally, Muñoz oversees global sales, service, and product planning as part of the global business operations division.

Hyundai’s U.S. headquarters in Fountain Valley, California, is where Muñoz is based. Muñoz is responsible for overseeing the entire Americas market, which includes Hyundai Motor North, Central and South America. In his role as the head of the Hyundai Motor Americas Region.

Muñoz is a Spanish native who holds a Ph.D. in nuclear engineering from Polytechnic University of Madrid. He also obtained an MBA from Instituto de Empresa (IE) Business School in Madrid. Additionally, he has completed executive management programs from Cranfield School of Management in the U.K. and INSEAD Business School in France. Muñoz is proficient in English, Spanish, and French.
