In some communities such as Milwaukee Wisconsin two car makes account for the vast majority of automotive thefts. They are Hyundai and Kia.
According to NBC affiliate WTMJ-TV Milwaukee, “police data shows the city’s stolen car epidemic centers around two vehicle brands in particular. Kias and Hyundais account for seven out of every ten cars stolen in Milwaukee this year.”
Kias and Hyundais have not always been stolen within Milwaukee in disparate numbers compared to other brands. These Korean brands have seen a 2,644% spike in thefts compared to the same time last year.
A local auto mechanic interviewed stated that thieves have identified a flaw in the car’s ignition system, which makes them easy to steal.
