Jalopnik website has posted an article regarding Markups.org, a crowd-sourced website detailing just how much specific car dealerships are gouging customers. Users can sort by manufacturer, state, mark-up amount (low/high), newest/oldest entry, etc.
A quick search reveals that Napoli Kia in Connecticut sold an EV6 with a $30,000 mark-up over MSRP sticker! Unfortunately, this is not the exception. Parkway Family Kia in Texas marked up a Kia Carnival by $22,495!
But it’s not all bad news as well. Users can sort Markups.org’s database by lowest mark-up amount. Doing so will reveal over twenty Kia dealership transactions with no mark-up at all.
Ultimately the consumer is to blame for paying unreasonably high mark-ups. That said, hopefully this website will help shine a light on which dealerships are doing good and which are just taking advantage.
