Hyundai Presents Ioniq 5 with e-Corner Steering

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Hyundai Mobis announced a prototype Ioniq 5 EV which can spin 360 degrees on its axis, drive diagonally, crab steer (drive perpendicular to the direction the car is pointed) and pivot turn (one set of wheels turns with 90 degree deflection while the another set is not turned at all, the ultimate parking lot donut). Hyundai Mobis is the brand’s autonomous driving division.

Marketed as “e-Corner” the EV module houses an electric motor, damper, brake by wire and steer by wire.

One application of turning all four wheels 90 degrees would be to enter or exit a parallel parking regime very easily.
